Photos Troops repel attack in Pulka and Bitta 16 terrorists killed arms and ammunition recovered

Troops of 26 and 28 Task Force Brigades repelled an early morning daring attack by fleeing Boko Haram terrorists on military locations at Pulka and Bitta in the fringes of Sambisa forest.

Yesterday, March 8, troops of 114 Task Force Battalion came under three-pronged attack by Boko Haram terrorists fanning out of Sambisa forest from Damboa, Tokumbere and Pulka axis. At the end of the debacle, 2 Boko Haram insurgents paid for their atrocities with their lives while several others sustained gun shot injuries. The fate that befell those that attacked Pulka was more dreadful.

The ever ready and vigilant troops rose to the occasion by repelling the attacks and killing all the 16 attackers and captured one of them alive during the exploitation. The gallant troops also recovered 11 AK-47 rifles, 3 General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), 1 Browning Machine Gun (BMG) and 2 Toyota Hilux vehicles. Others are a 60mm Mortar tube, 7 boxes of 12.7mm ammunition and 1 belt of 12.7mm ammunition.

There were no casualty on the troops except for 3 soldiers that sustained minor injuries. The troops remained on maximum alert and are equally busy consolidating and continuing with their clearance operations with high morale.

Robot Chicken DC Comics Special with Matt Senereich

Mark your calendars! On Sunday, September 9th Adult Swim will air the highly anticipated Robot Chicken DC Comics Special (at midnight).  In an exclsuive interview, Robot Chicken writer and co-creator Matt Senreich gives us a sneak peak on what hilarious adventures we can expect featuring the iconic characters of the DCU.

Victoria: Why did you decide to make a special focusing on the DCU?

Matt: Were all big comic fans. Its really that dorky and simple. That and weve known Geoff Johns forever. He approached us about playing together and we always look for ways to play with him.

Victoria: Will the special feature all new footage or will we see segments previously aired?

Matt: All new footage. Nothing previously aired.

Victoria: Why is Superman such a jerk?

Matt: Is he a jerk? I like to think hes just a bit cocky and arrogant because he knows hes the most powerful man on the planet.

Victoria: Will we see any characters that have no yet appeared on Robot Chicken?

Matt: Lots. Lots and lots and lots. We just went crazy trying to jam pack this special with as many DC characters as we could. Obscure ones especially. And we create a few new one for DC lore.

Victoria:  How long did it take to complete the special (in terms of animation)?

Matt: Probably about 15 weeks all in.

Victoria: Poor Aquaman seems to be the butt of all the jokes in the Justice League. Why does he get picked on so much?

Matt: The JLA look at him as not being able to do much with whatever powers he has. Hes an easy target, so the Justice League targets him. hahaha.

Victoria:  Have you been reading the New 52 and if so, what are your thoughts?

Matt: I have been reading a few. Liking what Im reading.

Victoria: How long will the special be?

Matt: 22-minutes.

Victoria:  Any plans to release it on DVD?

Matt: You know it.

Victoria:  Is it fun creating humorous personalities for these legendary comic characters?

Matt: A dream. I get to play with toys for a living.

Free Comic Book Day 2012

Its the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas comes early to geeks across the country as we celebrate Free Comic Book Day which takes place the first Saturday in May. This year the event was held on May 5, 2012 and I joined my friends at Comics and More as a featured cosplay guest.

Although I have been attending Free Comic Book Day for several years as a fan, this year marked my third time participating in the event as a cosplay guest. Catwoman was requested to make an appearance and other cosplayers were in attendance including Robin, Power Girl, Supergirl, Spider-Man, Green Lantern and X-23. Lots of fun was to be had at the Comics and More King of Prussia location in Pennsylvania. Not only were there lots of free goodies but artists present including the very talented Joi Washington.

Plenty of kids stopped by the store to say hello to their favorite superheroes. Cosplayers  posed for photos and handed out stickers and lollipops for the children. A podcast was also taking place live in the store. When fans come together to celebrate something that they love it is guaranteed to be a good time. New friends are made, great conversations are had and the energy is vibrate and fun. When it was all done and over my friends and I celebrated with dinner and a screening of The Avengers. Free Comic Book Day not only promotes literacy but unity and gives us memories to last a lifetime. My thanks to Comics and More and everyone who came out to the event. See you next year!

Dr Topols bad day

Dr. Eric Topol is a cardiologist, author, editor-in-chief of Medscape, and genomics professor. In 2009, he was named one of the 12 Rock Stars of Science by none other than GQ magazine.

But even rock stars occasionally have a bad day. After blogging for almost 5 years, I sometimes have trouble thinking of things to write about. This apparently happened to Dr. Topol the other day. He published a Medscape article with an accompanying video about how doctors are being squeezed by many outside forces that require them to do things they dont want to do.

It was kind of a rambling discourse in which he suggested that doctors should offload the responsibility to do these "more mundane aspects of care" to the patients. He thinks this would make medicine more exciting "the way it used to be."

Dr. Topol offered this cartoon to illustrate the outside forces that are squeezing doctors.

Genomics is a focus of Dr. Topols research, but I dont think a lot of doctors are concerned that they lack knowledge about it.

His post created a lot of controversy prompting Medscape to take down all of the comments.

With great foresight, one physician, Dr. Kristin Held, preserved her comment with a screenshot which I have thoughtfully provided for you below.

What do you think she really wanted to say with the start of her second paragraph? Could it have been "How about growing a _ _ _ _ of _ _ _ _s?

Like Dr. Held, I have no idea which of the "mundane aspects of this new world" Dr. Topol had in mind to offload on the patients. Of the 16 forces squeezing doctors that he illustrated, I dont see many of them being taken over by patients. They already control patient satisfaction and whats written on Yelp. Maybe they can cover the lack of genomic knowledge too.

Its sad that an influential doctor like Topol is so lost in the woods. However, the bright side is that gave me something to write about.

Support needed for the Wonder Woman film Heritage

Photographer Adam Jay has been taking the cosplay world by storm with his stunning images. He is currently the most sought after photographer among cosplayers and after seeing his work, its easy to see why. His photographs look as if they are from the set of Hollywoods latest comic book blockbuster. Now that Adam has conquered the world of photography, his sight is now set on bringing every ones favorite Amazon to life.

My earliest memories of Wonder Woman comes at the age of 7 years old. I would watch reruns of the Lynda Carter show daily and found myself spinning across the living room pretending to transform from Diana Prince to Wonder Woman (and usually ended up crashing into the coffee table). Ive loved her nearly all of my life and am beyond frustrated that DC Comics owns the most iconic female superhero in the world and does nothing with her. Her comics are badly written and no real attempt has been made to make her more marketable or mainstream. Shes the third wheel to Superman and Batman. DC has kept their focus on Bruce and Clark for far too long in terms of live action films, animated movies, and so forth. Although they have tinkered with the idea of giving us a little more of our Amazon Princess (such as her appearance in Batman: The Brave and the Bold and the 2009 direct to DVD animated film) it appears DC is deathly afraid of really putting an effort in Diana and when they did, they failed to protect her.  Case in point is the 2011 Wonder Woman television pilot starring Adrianne Palicki. The episode featured Diana as a foul mouth vigilante who threatened citizens on national television and killed henchmen. As a Wonder Woman fan, I was horrified and thanked the gods that it was not picked up by the networks.

Thankfully our prayers have been answered for a respectable live action Wonder Woman.  Adam Jay has recruited a talented team for his next project, the fan film "Heritage" but he needs your help.

Donations are currently needed to make this project a reality. The film will be directed by Adam and starring Sarah Scott, the stunning model featured in Adams photos. The goal for funds is $10,000 and every little bit helps. Your contribution will not go unnoticed (unless you would prefer it that way) and you will receive a special thank you as seen below:

(minimum contribution amount)

Everything else plus, Wonder Woman’s costume. Limited to the continental US, Canada, and the UK. Only one person! Costume cannot be adjusted for sizing.

No Perk, just a contribution!

Contributions can be made via the following link: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/106505/pledges/new  and you can find out more information about the project via their official website: http://wonderwomanfanfilm.com/

I recently had the pleasure of working with Adam at the recent Wizard World Philly/Philadelphia Comic Con 2012 show. I can say with greatest confidence that I know Wonder Woman is in safe hands. She will be brought to life in a beautiful and unique way. As a Wonder Woman fan and a fan of Adams superb photography,  its important to support this project. DC Comics feels Diana is too much of a risk and has repeatedly failed to give the fans what they want. The fan film Heritage will breathe life and respect to the champion of the Amazons.
